5 Reasons to Book Your Newborn Session Early

If you're at all like me, you love a good crockpot meal... mostly based on the fact that you can set it,  forget it, and come back later when it's ready to go! Today I wanted to talk about the benefits of booking your newborn session early, and why I think it's best to set it, and forget it 😉.

I often get emails from excited mama's early in their pregnancy, looking to connect, and get more info. There is so much going on during those beginning weeks, both physically and mentally, and our brain is already working on creating a new baby/pregnancy to-do list. To all those mama's I say, it's never too early to book! At the very least, I highly recommend  booking during your second trimester.

The mama of this darling little boy contacted me when he was already two weeks old. During our communication she said she, “didn’t know I wanted pictures until I wanted some." I could surely relate to that statement. I can be an indecisive person, and I take my time to make decisions. But when I finally do, I want what I want. I am so glad I had a last minute opening to accommodate this sweet family. It was a bit of a scramble, but we got it all squared away in just 2 days. I hope this list helps you to start thinking and planning ahead for your own newborn session!

1. Availability

Booking early ensures you will get a session with the photographer of your choice. There are lots of babies born in the Kansas City area every month, and I only take on 4 of those. Newborns are long anticipated, which gives plenty of time to plan ahead, and if you aren't booking early, someone else is. Don't miss out on a spot with a photographer whose work you love, and who you trust is a good fit for you! Remember newborn photos are typically done when baby is 7-14 days old. That window goes by so fast, and you don't want to miss it!

2. Ease the Stress

As your due date approaches, you'll find yourself busy with all the things that need to be done before little one arrives. The baby shower, finishing touches on the nursery, packing hospital bags, installing the car seat, tying things up at work before maternity leave, the list goes on. Ease the stress on your future self, by spending the time in early pregnancy to look for, and book, your choice photographer!

3. Finances

It's no secret that having a baby brings about lots of additional expenses. When you book your newborn session early, you can ease the burden a bit on your pocketbook by spreading some of those higher cost items out over the course of your pregnancy.

4. Styling

Now that you've got your dream photographer booked, you can focus on what you're going to wear! Planning and coordinating outfits for yourself, partner, and any siblings can take time. Don't forget to communicate with your photographer about backdrop options so that you can coordinate appropriately; and ask them for help and suggestions if needed! Remember when ordering things online, to allow for shipping time, and exchanges if necessary.  Give yourself plenty of time to shop around and find something that you'll feel comfortable and confident in!

5. Be Prepared

Booking your session early gives you the mental space to start preparing other things that you might want to do, especially related to your newborn photos. If you're planning to send out birth announcements, you can use this time to put together your mailing list, collect addresses, and shop around to find a few templates you like. Once baby arrives, sleep is in short supply, along with the time and energy to focus on these details. Having a template picked out, and your list ready to go, means you'll just have to add the pictures and order once you get your newborn photos!

I think it can be hard in the beginning of pregnancy to wrap our minds around all that is going to change. It might feel like reality hasn't set in yet, and I think that keeps some of us from moving forward with our to-do lists. However, once you book your newborn session, I hope you'll feel excited, and ready to move forward with the many other preparations for your little one.♥️
