Hey there, welcome back to the blog! Did you know that I offer studio maternity sessions?! This is a newer service that I am now offering to those looking for an indoor studio maternity photoshoot. I'm excited that my small home studio can double as a space not just for newborns, but also maternity sessions for growing families! This lovely expecting mother, Monica, contacted me wanting to capture some photos of her second pregnancy. I was thrilled to do so, but it was the dead of winter here in Kansas City, and working outdoors just wasn't going to be an option. Studio session to the rescue!
I love being able to welcome families into my home studio. It is always my hope that those I photograph here will feel relaxed, and right at home in my cozy space. Monica wanted the session to mostly focus on her, with a few family shots with her husband, and son. She wasn't sure how well her 2 year old son would do, and was worried he would be all over the place. The night before the session I pulled aside a few of my sons' toys, sanitized them, and set them up in our living room. I was so happy that this little guy spotted the toys right away, and made himself right at home playing.
Kids aged 1-3, can sometimes be challenging to photograph. They are always on the go, and can be unsure of new places and people. I think when it came down to it, feeling at home and getting to play a bit in this new space helped this little boy feel comfortable, and relaxed. When it was time to take photos of everyone together, he walked right on over, and did so well! I was even able to capture a few shots of mom and dad together, while their son played happily.
We finished up this studio maternity session with one outfit change to my golden silk fabric, that draped so beautifully over this glowing mom. Despite frigid outdoor temperatures, we were able to capture such a special moment in Monica's journey in motherhood. All in the warmth of the indoors. I'm excited to continually offer studio sessions year round, but especially when the weather is less then ideal, for outdoor sessions.
